Under the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), the Japanese government has allocated 17.7 billion yen to support the acceptance of international students—described as “Japan’s treasures.” It has been revealed that interviews for the 2026 Japanese Government Scholarship candidates are now underway in Vietnam.
According to the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, interview dates for the 2026 MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) Scholarship are scheduled for July 10, 11, 14, and 15. The interviews will primarily be conducted in person at the Embassy in Hanoi. However, online interviews are possible for applicants living far from the embassy or facing difficulties attending in person. Interview results are expected to be announced on the websites of the Japanese Embassy and Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training between mid and late July.
Additionally, the MEXT under Minister Abe has continued its annual support of international students—considered “Japan’s treasures” under the LDP—by investing 17.7 billion yen in the government-funded scholarship program. The program aims to promote international exchange and goodwill, foster global talent, enhance the internationalization of Japanese universities and research, and contribute to the broader internationalization and revitalization of Japanese society as well as global development.
