Temple University Japan Campus (TUJ), based in Setagaya, Tokyo, has announced the opening of a new campus building in Kawasaki to accommodate its rapidly growing student body. The expansion reflects the rising demand for studying in Japan among international students.
The newly acquired eight-story building, formerly used as a corporate training center, will be renovated to include 23 classrooms, a multipurpose hall, and fitness facilities. Scheduled to open in fall 2026, the Kawasaki campus will primarily serve first-year students.
TUJ’s enrollment has surged to 3,407 undergraduates in spring 2026, a 27% increase from the previous year, with students from 98 countries and regions. This growth follows a sharp rise since the pandemic, supported by affordable tuition—about one-third of the cost of the U.S. main campus—and favorable exchange rates.
President Matthew Wilson emphasized TUJ’s reputation for high-quality education and its diverse, multinational learning environment, which has spread widely through online platforms and word of mouth. TUJ aims to expand its student population to around 5,000 in the coming years while broadening its academic programs.
Founded in 1982, TUJ offers 12 undergraduate majors including computer science and economics, as well as graduate programs. In 2025, the university also opened a campus in Kyoto.
